October Judgments
In October, there were 447 Irish debtors pursued in the courts for failure to repay nearly €40m of bad debts. The average value was €88,000.
The largest judgment of €9.6m was registered against Jerry Beades of 162, Richmond Road, Fairview, Dublin 3. The plaintiff in this case was Bank of Scotland plc, Scotland. Dearbhail McDonald, journalist with the Irish Independent wrote about this judgment.
Credit Unions took judgments against their non-paying members in 17 separate cases for unpaid debts totaling €215,000. The largest judgment was for €34,889 and was obtained by Templeogue and District Credit Union. The smallest credit union judgment was registered by Drumcondra and District Credit Union for €2730..
The Collector General registered 209 judgments for unpaid taxes of €9m, the largest of which was €1.6m.
The Banks obtained 16 judgments which cumulatively totaled €25m. This included a €4m judgment taken by Danske Bank against two separate individuals, holding each of them jointly and severally liable for the debt.
